The 4th edition of the Abhyudaya Festival, curated by Subbulakshmi’s Nrityashala, was held at Sacred Space, Secunderabad, under the artistic direction of Smt. Subbulakshmi, a Kalakshetra alumna. This non-profit initiative aims to create a platform for solo, group, and traditional dance performances while fostering meaningful exchanges among artists.
The evening began with a graceful Odissi recital by Reebdhita Barua, followed by a traditional Bharatanatyam Margam performed by Subbulakshmi’s Nrityashala ensemble. The highlight was an elegant solo recital by Apoorva Jayaraman, senior disciple of Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, presenting a rich repertoire from Alaripu to Abhang.
Founded in 2009, Subbulakshmi’s Nrityashala has been dedicated to promoting Bharatanatyam as a tool for education and empowerment. Smt. Subbulakshmi, who also teaches at The Hyderabad Public School, continues to inspire students, with one recently achieving a perfect score in the Class 10 board exam for Bharatanatyam.
Currently pursuing her Ph.D., she explores storytelling through dance to engage and educate children. The Abhyudaya Festival remains a vibrant cultural platform rooted in tradition and artistic excellence.
